Your Next Adventure

Pulse Perspective by Elizabeth Starr

This season, we get to look forward to a lot of exciting new animated series on Crunchyroll. The surge of the isekai genre seems to have died down after the success of “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime,” although the genre still hasn’t completely faded. On top of all the exciting continuation of popular series like “Spy X Family” and “Jujutsu Kaisen,” there are some promising new series being released.

“Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” – After just slaying the demon king, the hero party all go their separate ways. Promising to meet up again in fifty years. A beautiful mentor and student type of show that touches on survivors’ guilt due to the main character being an elf with an incredibly long lifespan while the rest of the party has shorter lifespans. This anime dropped quite a few episodes already and it sure didn’t disappoint me. It seems like a slice of life story, however there is still that feeling of a journey that I find most slice of life stories lack. There is a goal for the protagonist to work towards, which I won’t say because of spoilers

“Berserk of Gluttony” – In this fantasy world, everyone has a skill that they are born with. These skills vary in power and usefulness. There is a power imbalance based on ability and those with superior abilities quickly work their way to the top. The main character who thinks their power is useless suddenly discovers its true capabilities and meets an interesting companion. The main character's good nature contradicts the darkness of his skill. I suspect this anime will turn dark soon.

“I’m in Love with the Villainess” – This anime is another isekai, I know a lot of people are tired of this genre, however this is one of the few that are being released this season. The main character ends up in an otaku game that she was a fan of. I read some of the light novels for this one, this series could be a genuinely good LGBTQ2+ anime, assuming it keeps with the light novel. From what I read in the light novel and witnessed in the first few episodes, the anime, and the manga both start off goofy, but based on the anime I see it getting serious amazingly fast. I have a lot of hope for this anime.
